Rapid Leak and Channeling Detection for Optical Fiber Wellbore Integrity Monitoring
Background: A horizontal well in Southwest Oil and Gas Field had abnormal gas logging due to casing leakage. On May 12, 2022, an optical fiber was run to 4,500m with the drill string to complete DTS+DAS testing.
Challenges: Concealed and small leakage, well pressure damaging the optical fiber, lack of pipe string judgment tools and reservoir deep detection methods, suspected optical cable defects without effective attenuation testing means.
Solution: Monitor downhole acoustic waves and temperature via DAS and DTS to accurately locate leakage points.
Result: DAS analysis indicates interlayer channeling in 3815-4415m and leakage at 4 casing collars.
